GOD’S WORK WINS GRAND BAOBAB AWARD FOR BEST FEATURE FILM AT QUIBDÓ AFRICA FILM FESTIVAL 2026
South African feature God’s Work has won the Grand Baobab Award – Best Feature Film at the Quibdó Africa Film Festival 2026 in Colombia.
The award marks another major international recognition for the film as it continues its festival journey across Africa and internationally.
Directed by Michael James and produced by Sithabile Mkhize, God’s Work is a South African feature that moves between fiction and documentary to explore homelessness, social invisibility, faith, memory and the search for dignity within a contemporary African city.

In presenting the Grand Baobab Award, the Quibdó Africa Film Festival recognised the film within its celebration of Afrodisruptive cinema - work that challenges established narratives and creates space for African and Afro-descendant stories and perspectives.
The Colombian award follows God’s Work receiving the Radwan El-Kashef Prize for Best Film Addressing an African Issue at the Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt earlier in 2026.
Since its world premiere at the Durban International Film Festival, God’s Work has continued its festival journey through the Joburg Film Festival, Luxor African Film Festival, Zanzibar International Film Festival, Quibdó Africa Film Festival and the Festival Internacional de Cine Africano en Argentina (FICAA).
The Grand Baobab Award – Best Feature Film represents an important milestone in that journey and further demonstrates the ability of a story rooted deeply in South African lived experience to connect with audiences across cultures and continents.
The God’s Work team extends its sincere thanks to the Quibdó Africa Film Festival, its jury and audiences in Colombia for this recognition, and to the cast, crew and partners whose work has carried the film from its beginnings in Durban to audiences around the world.
